In 2018, TVQG again chose to give it's scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to UNT. Though the scholarship is normally awarded in the Spring, the College of Visual Arts and Design will wait till Fall this year to allow them to hold their scholarship event in their new building. Quilting Program Update - Their long-arm machine and computer system has been integrated into the Surface Design course. Last semester, students used the machine to quilt, stitch, and experiment with material for one of their course projects. Many have continued using the equipment this semester. The Fibers Collection hosted a long-arm/computer workshop for students in all disciplines. Students are using the long-arm machine in a variety of ways. One is using it for free form stitching, and another is stitching down loose yarns to cloth and then cutting out and sewing garments with the cloth. Another studen is working on a project from images that were digitally printed on their large format textile printer, and then quilting it on the long-arm. One is utilizing the computer system part of the long-arm by developing a way to transfer her hand drawings to readable files using Autocad.
