The Making of our ‘Mystery’ Donation Quilt

2012 Trinity Valley Donation Quilt When asked to coordinate our 2012 Donation Quilt we didn’t know what we might do. However given the theme of the Quilt Show for this year, Remember When.…Quilted Memories of Days Gone By, and a fondness for ‘tradition’, a small group of us decided to do something with Reproduction 30’s fabrics. We didn’t know where we were headed, but decided to ask Guild Members to make four- patch blocks from mixed Reproduction 30’s fabrics so that we could involve as many members as possible in the making of the quilt. We were overwhelmed when we received approximately 1500 four-patches! What to do with them was the next question…

We were inspired by some designs by Cynthia Tomaszewski and decided to use variations of several of her floral pattern blocks along with many generic garden flower blocks to add to our four-patches. We handed out patterns, fusible and muslin squares to Guild Members with instructions for them to use Reproduction 30’s fabrics to make the blocks. We had over 80 blocks returned.

We created our own design for the quilt and the Committee of 5 stitched the blocks together for the Donation Quilt. We had enough blocks left over to make four additional quilt tops which were stitched together by Guild Bee Groups.2012 Trinity Valley Donation Quilt

Bids were requested from long arm quilters in the Guild and one was selected: Shelley Hilton Pace enhanced our quilt with beautiful custom work using a very light variegated thread. The quilt was ready for presentation to the Guild at our February Guild Meeting. All members who participated in the making of the quilt were given chances to win one of the extra tops and 4 lucky names were drawn at our March Guild Meeting. Chances are now being sold and one lucky winner will be selected at our annual Quilt Show, September 28-30 of this year.

This has truly been a Guild Project and all our members should be very proud of our ‘Mystery Quilt’ now titled "Remember When…"
